UB Undergraduate Academies

On Tuesday, October 27th the Undergraduate Academies and Student Life sponsored a movie and discussion to highlight the author of The Soloist, Steve Lopez. A post-screening discussion was led by Dr. David Schmid, Chair of the UB English Department.

Dr. Schmid led a discussion that examined the similarities and differences between the movie and book. Dr. Schmidt also highlighted some interesting facts about the movies. He mentioned how the director insisted on using the actual Skid Row community and Lamp occupants as extras in the film. This was done intentionally as an effort to bring about awareness and resources to the troubled area.

Don't forget to join the Academies as we attend the UB Distinguished Speaker Steve Lopez, author of this year's UB Reads book, The Soloist Wednesday, October 28th at 8:00pm in Alumni Arena!
