Research in the Social Sciences: INTERVENTIONS FOR CHILDREN WITH DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR AND ADHD

On Tuesday September 29, 2009, the Undergraduate Academies took a group of interested students down to South Campus to visit the Center for Children and Families in Diefendorf Hall, and hear a talk by Dr. Greg Fabiano (School of Counseling and Educational Psychology) entitled INTERVENTIONS FOR CHILDREN WITH DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR AND ADHD.

Dr. Fabiano spoke about the the problems associated with ADHD, reminding students that the condition has recently been recognized as a chronic condition that affects individuals throughout their entire lives and can have significant impact on life course and success.

He reminded everyone that ADHD is characterized by developmentally inappropriate levels of :
- Hyperactivity
-Inattention
-Impulsivity

At the CCF, Dr. Fabiano and the other researchers run several programs and studies that use behavioral modification treatment methods, alone and in conjunction with medication, to try to determine the most effective way to treat ADHD.

He spoke about several programs run by the Center, including their popular summer camp treatment program, that help to teach these behavioral methods to parents so that they can more effectively help their own children.

Students interested in getting involved in these programs should visit the CCF website http://ccf.buffalo.edu/default.php or email Dr. Fabiano directly to learn more about these opportunities.

Thank you Dr. Fabiano for a very informative and interesting presentation!!

Presenting a new perspective on body art and expression. Dr. Cheng discussed three types of art: body art, body modification, and body hacking.

How was your Thanksgiving Break?

Hey guys,

We're curious about the fun you had back home on break!

I had a nice relaxing time not being seeing the inside of Hayes Hall and definitely ate too much food. It was my first Thanksgiving as a vegetarian which made my mom real nervous, but she handled the stuffed squash well! I also saw my friend who is living in NYC. We haven't hung out in two years- it was an awesome time!

Your stories?
