UB Undergraduate Academies

On Sunday, September 20th, we hosted "Pinwheels for Peace" in Richmond Locked Lounge. Our pinwheels show out commitment to peace. We also had the opportunity to screen "Peace One Day" - a documentary that talks about one man's efforts to get every nation to not only recognize peace day, but also to observe and to commit to their promise of one day of peace.

Our pinwheels went on display Monday morning -- and how great they looked! We hope you had the chance to see our pinwheels out in Founder's Plaza, outside Norton Hall!

Ms. Elea Mihou, our guest speaker for the day, is the executive director of the WNY Peace Center. Their broad message for spreading peace, on a local level and an international level, was inspiring for undergraduate students. She talked about her organization's efforts to creating peace in our own neighborhood and abroad.

If you're interested in getting involved, Ms. Mihou encourages students to volunteer or even submit their interest in interning at their organization (which could be done for credit!). If you'd like to get involved, check out the following flyer:

Tuesday, December 1 @ 1PM

On Tuesday, December 1 at 1PM, the Undergraduate Academies hosted a guest speaker Dr. Sarah-Bay Cheng, from the Department of Theatre & Dance.

Presenting a new perspective on body art and expression. Dr. Cheng discussed three types of art: body art, body modification, and body hacking.

When we think of tattoos and piercings, we are first intrigued by what is drawn or done to the body. However, we have to remember, that these are pieces of expression. A person who gets a tattoo or a set of… Continue

How was your Thanksgiving Break?

Hey guys,

We're curious about the fun you had back home on break!

I had a nice relaxing time not being seeing the inside of Hayes Hall and definitely ate too much food. It was my first Thanksgiving as a vegetarian which made my mom real nervous, but she handled the stuffed squash well! I also saw my friend who is living in NYC. We haven't hung out in two years- it was an awesome time!

Your stories?
